How about we take this league through 2021 or 2022, depending on projected sim schedule and then do a new league with historical players? At least we will have a hard end date that will factor into GM trade decisions, and keep everyone accountable for trades. Hopefully, we can place the new GMs with teams that have not traded away future picks. I think all but KnicksGM are still here, and hopefully someone can get him back.

Shouldn't be too hard to do since he's currently making a bid for the world series in VaV baseball

I'll go for Option 2. Starting with real life rosters would be the most realistic. A good season to commence is 1976/77 right after the NBA-ABA merger. Plenty of good teams to choose from.

I was thinking the same thing for timing. That way we get Dr. J in his prime, Pre-injury Bill Walton and full careers of Magic and Bird when they come into the league in 1979.

Open to any of the options. If we choose to reboot, I may have a couple of buddies that would want to join. They have experience in other Sim Leagues. Are they into baseball sim leagues? The commish could use a couple for VaV Baseball too.. I doubt it but it wouldn't hurt to ask. We're traditionally bball and football guys.

I would vote for 80s restart, since we never experienced that Era as far as I know... I have very little interest in modern day NBA, but I understand if someone wants to continue from where we left.
Other than that I've been on super hectic schedule this past month and can't promise any activity for the next 2-3 months or so, been inactive on MLB as well for the most part, so it would be fair to give my spot to someone else regardless of the outcome.
Hopefully I can rejoin once I have time for it.

I once was in a historical league starting from the 1980/81 season with a linked NCAA league using FBCB2. The real fun is watching future HOFs like Jordan, Ewing and the like to be heavily recruited and see how they develop onwards. Having said that, this needs hundred of hours to input each and every recruits in FBCB2 and this might not warrant the effort.

Thought I'd throw a summary post to serve as a GM Check-in:
The following GMs have posted interest in both the current league for a few more seasons until we catch up to real life and the historical season starting in the late 70's:
KnicksGM-skeptical of consistent monitoring of his team. More interested in the historical league. LakersGM CavsGM HawksGM MavsGM BucksGM WarriorsGM BulletsGM SunsGM PistonsGM SonicsGM SpursGM T-WolvesGM ThunderGM
The following GMs have not posted:
MagicGM-logged on to the site yesterday NetsGM-logged on last April 27th CelticsGM-logged on last May 7th (on the baseball board consistently) HeatGM-logged on last June 11th (on the baseball board consistently) HornetsGM-logged on yesterday SixersGM-logged on last May 13th RaptorsGM-logged on last July 15th RocketsGM-logged on last May 1st JazzGM-logged on last December of 2020 BlazersGM-logged on last June 2nd KingsGM-logged on last August 29, 2020 ClippersGM-logged on last May 22nd
New GMs on waiting list:
PrezWilco Schmooncy Madsheep
I think we are close to full knowing the Commish & CavsGM have direct contact with a few of the GMs who haven't been on in awhile.
I think the openings are the Utah Jazz, and maybe the Kings and Nets, but both might just need to be advised we are back...
Hope this helps.

IMHO I think that we need to go back in the past for a retro historical league.
Reasons are simple.
If Josh is going to all this work into it we need to ensure we have have active teams. We can then sim at the normal brisk pace we have been in the past.
Smaller league reduces the chance of dead teams.

Josh would need to ask the Rockets and Clippers. They're aware but I don't know why they have not checked in
